Professor Dr. Philipp Sandner founded the Frankfurt School Blockchain Center (FSBC) at the Frankfurt School of Finance & Management. From 2018 to 2021, he was one of the “Top 30” economists in Germany according to the ranking of the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung (FAZ). Additionally, he was named one of the “Top 40 under 40” by the business magazine Capital.

Sandner’s research focuses particularly on blockchain technology, bitcoin, crypto assets, decentralized finance (DeFi), distributed ledger technology (DLT), digital programmable euro, and electronic securities. He also examines corporate entrepreneurship, digital transformation (for example, through fintech startups), strategic innovation, startup financing (for instance, through strategic investors, business angels, venture capital), and intellectual property rights.

Philipp Sandner serves on the board of directors of the Blockchain Founders Group, a company that is active in venture capital financing for blockchain startups and investments in the crypto asset space.

His areas of expertise include blockchain technology in general, crypto assets such as Bitcoin and Ethereum, decentralized finance (DeFi), the digital euro, asset tokenization, and the digital identity space.

As the head of the FSBC, Prof. Sandner also initiated the DLT Talents Program to promote women in the blockchain industry, the DeFi Talents Program for education in the DeFi sector, and the NFT Talents Program for the NFT space.
